Evolving from the tried-and-true high-performance 1155 design, these plates cut weight, thickness, and also price. It’s the best value in American-made body armor – and its why this plate is also the best multi-curve level 4 body armor. Made from 100% American materials, we combined our high performance multi-hit capable Alumina Oxide strike face with a lightweight Dyneema® UHMWPE backer to create affordable and also lightweight level 4 plates.
Shed Weight, Not Dollars
RMA 1165 Lightweight Level 4 plates are the ultimate expression of our mission; to make the world’s best body armor available for all Americans. Typically, manufacturers save weight by using lighter weight ceramics like silicon and also boron. We also do that. But it comes at a cost. Our 1192 series is a fantastic lightweight level 4 plate, but is more on the expensive side. Boron/Silicon carbide is more expensive to make, and thus ultimately results in a more expensive plate.
We wondered if there were other ways to save weight while keeping costs down. Legendary Dyneema® UHMWPE was the answer. This high strength material works as a lightweight backer to our famous RMA alumina Level 4 strike face. While this requires a bit more labor and machine time, it also cuts about 1.5 lbs from the weight of our best-selling 1155 plate. You can expect both high performance and low weight from our new 1165 plates. And your wallet? It will stay a little heavier at such an affordable price.
Plus, we’ve also slimmed the 1165 down to only 0.8 inches thin. Save weight, save thickness, and also save money.
